Ratan Tata is a well educated industrialist who did his pre-university study from India and higher studies from the USA. He did his schooling from Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai. He later moved to New York to complete his graduation from Riverdale Country School. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University at New York and did his Management course from Harvard Business School, Boston.
After completion of his education, he started his career undoubtedly with the Tata Group. He started his work by handling the department of the blast furnace in Tata Steel Limited and later appointed as a chairman of Tata Group in 1991. He faced many difficulties at the beginning while playing the role of chairman and started to focus on younger talent and invention to build the brand of Tata Group. Ratan Tata succeeds to increase the revenue of the Tata Group of the company by 40 times and profit by 50 times during 21 years of his chairmanship. Tata Group has acquired many companies under the leadership of Ratan Tata and expanding the group to the global level with operating their business in over 100 countries.
After contribution to the group till December 2012, he decides to resign and appointed Cyrus Mistry who is the son of Pallonji Mistry. The decision of making him his successor make the crisis in the Tata Group and four years after Natarajan Chandrasekaran was appointed as a Chairman in Feb 2017.
He made numerous personal investments in various sectors like e-commerce, transportation, electronics, finance, and others. The list of the companies in which he made small investments includes Snapdeal, Paytm, DogSpot, Xiaomi, Abra, CashKaro.com, Nestaway, and Ola Cabs.
He earned the second and third highest civilian award of India while working with Tata Group.

Early Life and Family
He was born in Mumbai in the British Raj. He is the son of Naval Hormusji Tata who was an adopted son of Ratanji Tata. Sonoo Tata is a mother of Ratan Tata and first wife of Naval Tata. His father was separated from his mother in 1948 and then married to Simone Tata in 1955. He has a brother named Noel Tata from his stepmother (second wife of his father). Ratan Tata did not marry yet but he said in an interview that he was fall in love for four times but couldn’t take it to marriage for a reason.
