He completed his schooling from Nidadavolu and did his Intermediate from C.S.R. Sarma College in Ongole. He did his graduation with commerce stream at Sri Y N College in Narsapur. He wants to make his career in acting from his childhood. He later moved to Chennai after completing his study to starts his acting career by admitted in Madras Film Institute in the year 1976.
Chiranjeevi made his acting debut with his first movie named Punadhirallu which was released in June 1979. He mainly worked for Tamil movies and appeared in 150 featured movies. He started to perform as a lead role in various films in 1982. He won his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor in his acting career for his movie named Shubhalekha. Later he worked for several films in Telugu cinema and got success to provide a series of super hit movies in between 1983 to 2007. He earned a lot of awards for his contribution to Telugu cinema. After 2007 to present, he started to get an average response from the audience and the reason behind activeness in politics.
He started his political career by joining Praja Rajyam Party which was a regional party of Andhra Pradesh. In 2009, He elected for Member of the State Assembly from Tirupati. In 2011, He merged his political party with Indian National Congress and was nominated in Rajya Sabha in March 2012. He then elected for Member of Parliament (MP) of Rajya Sabha. After worked for 7 to 8 years with the Indian National Congress Party, he ended his political career in April 2018 and did not attend any political events.

He was born in a village named Mogalthur. His father name is Konidela Venkat Rao and worked as a constable. His mother name is Anjana Devi. The screen name “Chiranjeevi” was advised by his mother and its meaning is live forever. Chiranjeevi married with Surekha Konidela in 1980. He has a son named Ram Charan Teja who also an actor in Tamil cinema and has two daughters named Srija and Sushmita. He has two younger brothers named Pawan Kalyan, an actor in Telugu films and Nagendra Babu, a film producer.
